The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations operating in 109 countries and implementing multilateral programmes in collaboration with partners. We believe that cultural relations mean the building of international trust and understanding and the generation of opportunities for individuals to fulfil their potential and fosters the co-operation that contributes to a stable world. We run programmes in the Arts, English, Education and Society – including science and sport – and contribute to the security and prosperity of the UK and the countries where we work. All over the world, people want greater educational opportunities to enhance their lives and employment prospects. We live in a globalised world so our focus in education is on bringing an international dimension to education in schools, technical colleges and universities, on raising educational standards by sharing the UK's expertise, and on encouraging the best international students to study in the UK.
Through its on-line school platform British Council offers opportunities in international programmes and activities to its registered schools. We work with all ages and all types of schools. Science and sustainability form also part of our strategy in Education and Society. Through our work in Science and Sustainability we link scientists globally and provide information for international researchers on jobs and funding in the UK. Equally, we encourage grass-roots discussion of science and sustainability issues. The MARCH project on the British Council website: https://www.britishcouncil.org/education/science/capacity-building/march-project
